Car-camping pack list.

For a primitive (no electricity, no water) car-camping trip — the Knight Owls default. Adapt it for each campout's activity and the season's weather.

Sleep

  • Tent (a smaller 2-person tent stays flexible for future backpacking)
  • Sleeping bag — rated for the forecast (a liner adds warmth)
  • Sleeping pad — closed-cell foam (cheap/light) or an air pad (comfortable)
  • Pillow (compressible, ultralight, or one from home)
  • Headlamp

Kitchen & water

  • Non-disposable plate, cup & utensils
  • Water bottle
  • Camp towel
  • 2 gallons of drinking water per person
  • Snacks & any drinks you want

Clothing

  • Hiking boots or trail runners
  • Water shoes (if there are water activities)
  • Shorts & hiking pants
  • Short- and long-sleeve tees
  • Fleece & puffer jacket
  • Rain jacket
  • Glove liners or gloves · warm hat
  • Sun hat & sunglasses · extra socks

Miscellaneous

  • Camp chair
  • Day pack for hikes
  • Pocket knife or multi-tool
  • Battery backup & charging cables
  • Sunscreen
  • Toiletries
